A Craftsmen’s Festival was Held in Gorodets, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast

on July 25, 2009, officials from Gorodetsky Raion Administration and representatives of the Fund for Sustainable Development and the Gorodets Craftsmen’s Chamber present tools acquired under the Citi Foundation project to local craftsmen and the Craftsmen’s City Tourist Complex

The project Development of Folk Arts and Crafts – as a Potential for Creating new Jobs in Gorodetsky Raion that is now being carried out under the Improving Communities Right Now Program funded by Citi Foundation is aimed at supporting the development of traditional arts and crafts of the region. Proceeding from the results of a poll conducted among local artisans, the project team decided to acquire tools for Gorodets wood carvers and for equipping shops at the tourist complex Craftsmen’s City that is currently under construction.

On July 25, 2009, at a Craftsmen’s Festival organized in Gorodets the tools were presented to the craftsmen. These exclusive tools are being used in the process of building the tourist complex – the windows of the old-Russian style wooden cottages are adorned with traditional local wood carving ornaments.
